Virtual reality and augmented reality are here to stay, as they can be implemented in various fields such as video games, advertising, and even promoting the historical heritage of a city.

That is why the Faculty of Architecture, Construction and Environment of the Autonomous University of Chile, together with Zenta, META Lab, Talca Municipality and Municipality of San Miguel, designed an augmented reality project, where citizens could live an immersive experience of more than 100 years of history in the Cienfuego square of Talca and the Comic square of San Miguel.

What was the Virtual Kaleidoscope about?

It consisted of creating an immersive experience that allowed users to delve into the past and its historical sites through their smartphones and cameras. To achieve a complete perspective, a 360° format was used, enhanced with GPS to utilize real-time location and allow the user's physical environment to match the virtual experience.

This innovative platform offers the possibility of visualizing a three-dimensional map with points of interest, guaranteeing a complete adventure, where the exploration of streets, parks, historical buildings and emblematic sites is possible.

In addition, it provides relevant information about each point, such as detailed descriptions, historical data, images, and other multimedia resources that further enrich the experience.

What is the benefit of these types of applications?

This not only helps us to continue promoting innovation in Chile, through the development and implementation of these types of technologies, but it also becomes the perfect opportunity to rescue cultural heritage and encourage the historical interest of the population.

On the other hand, it represents the starting point to ensure that these types of non-profit initiatives continue to grow, reaching new areas and becoming available to a large part of the population.

We are proud to be part of this type of project, where research and development come together to mark a milestone and also leave positive marks on the culture of our country.
