Technology has become key to increasing the capacity to generate, store, and process the millions of data points that accumulate daily. Data warehouses have enabled the storage of these data in large volumes, and more recently, with the advent of data lakes, they have also made it possible to extract their value and transform them into useful and reliable information for businesses.
At Zenta, our talents have been successfully working on the implementation of this platform, one of those challenges being a project we started in April for a major retail client.
“This involves developing a data lake that will make all the information available through a single source, which will include data from its branches in Chile, Peru, and Colombia. Therefore, our work consists of migrating the entire on-premises data warehouse, currently located on physical servers, to the GCP cloud.”
The team in charge is led by Scrum Master Nikol Liberona, along with Data Engineers Carlos De Abreu and Pablo Rivas, Data Driven Jorge Hernandez, and Architect Luz Plaz.
As Nikol Liberona explains, “the complete project consists of three phases: Commercial, which we are already finalizing, followed by Finance and Operations. Once completed, these three business areas will have an easily accessible and clean data system, ready for quick use.”
Therefore, one of their main challenges is “standardizing the products and services the client uses to migrate them to the GCP cloud. For example, they had a data warehouse in SAP that provided structures that weren't fully utilized or visualized by the organization, which will now change thanks to a data warehouse that will be enhanced in the cloud. This means they will be able to access and view the information through dashboards and structures that we create,” emphasizes Carlos De Abreu.

And what other benefits will it bring them? These include access to real-time information, such as currency exchange rates for the three countries where they operate, which were previously more difficult to obtain. They will also be able to generate indicators for the sales area using tools like Tableau, allowing them to work entirely within the system. Finally, the Sales, Finance, and Operations departments will be able to access and extract data from the same platform, moving towards more agile management.
“At Zenta, we are once again happy and proud of the work our talents are doing, through the development of a data system that will allow our client's business units to access and use valuable information to improve their daily management and strategic decision-making.”
