Logistics is becoming increasingly important in the purchasing process, whether online, in person, or by phone, so its smooth operation is key to maintaining consumer trust and loyalty.
Therefore, and especially during times of pandemic, where e-commerce has continued to grow, it is necessary for companies to be able to continue improving their shipping services and offer return guarantees, among other things.
Some of these current challenges are those faced by our client, one of the most established retail companies in Latin America. Between 2019 and 2020, we worked on three development projects at GCP focused on supporting the logistics operations that increase daily due to demand, such as stock location and inventory tracking.
“To address these challenges, and given the similarity between the three, an agnostic solution was designed that allowed us to cover them all and also reduce their development times.”
“In the first project, our mission was to update the logistics program and automation for a new distribution center in Santiago, while the second was to develop a very similar solution, but this time for our client's storage center in Peru. What we did was leverage the existing architecture and platforms, creating a single solution called WMOS to work on both,” explains our architect, Mario Muñoz.

That same technology was used for a third project, which arose at the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis. Our client was looking to generate mini Cyberdays every week to increase online sales, which meant preparing a high logistical capacity. It was decided to implement so-called dark stores, whose spaces function as distribution and storage warehouses.
“We used everything we had built before and set up the dark stores, but we also worked on incorporating two other phases that are part of logistics: the last mile and after-sales service,” says Mario Muñoz.
He points out that at the project level, they were able to "minimize development times by using GCP, which also allowed us to build business capabilities organically."
As Zenta, we once again want to highlight the work of our Architecture team, who, from a single solution, enabled our client to update and improve their logistics systems in Chile and Peru.
