In a beautiful city with monuments steeped in history and close to the mythical Silicon Valley, the cradle of technology and its great pioneers, Google chose the ideal place to show us the new foundations of technology.
Generative AI! These are the words you should memorize and commit to memory if you want to ride the wave of innovation. But don't worry, there's still time.
“Generative AI, Generative AI & Generative AI.”
After a long but exciting trip in which, in addition to having the opportunity to share with some of our clients and other Google technology partners, we made the obligatory tour of the city of San Francisco, impressive for its architecture and historical monuments and home to the gigantic Moscow Center.
With credentials in hand and full of excitement, we attended what is, today, the IT world's most impactful event on what is and will be the evolution of technology during the next year.
From a technical and architectural perspective, I believe the most interesting and relevant elements, which will set the tone after a keynote with some shortcomings regarding continuity and technological deployment, are the following:
Duet AI
We had the opportunity to see and test the collaborative work experience that this tool offers in environments like Workspace or more significant elements for application developers such as App Sheet, simplifying through natural language the implementations that we are now able to carry out and keeping in mind the millions of possibilities that open up before this powerful ally in our work, which will put the challenge in creativity over the mechanization of tasks.
Simplifying the way we send emails, supporting draft development, creating engaging presentations, managing projects and remote collaborative work through automatic notes and subtitles, or reducing noise in meetings, are some of the new features that can now be tested in preview mode in Google Workspace + Duet AI.
GKE Enterprise
Who can deny the advantages of microservices architectures over monolithic structures and how GKE became the benchmark infrastructure for this purpose? Who can deny the revolution that Autopilot was in de-managing GKE's administrative tasks? And in the future, no one will be able to deny the revolution that the incorporation of TPUs in new versions of GKE Enterprise represents, becoming the catalyst for traditional workloads to evolve into the world of AI.
Duet AI reappears as a valuable addition to container management, not only for GKE but also for Cloud Run, which now includes CPU Boost to improve container cold starts. Special attention should be paid to the new Multi-cluster feature, which allows for dedicated clusters with workloads grouped by similarity.
Ultimately, it boils down to this: GKE is now faster, more secure, and has greater collaborative management capabilities thanks to AI.
Vertex AI
The point of this meeting, trying to summarize everything new that was announced at Next 2023 in just a few lines, would be selfish of us, therefore, I will try to mention what is most relevant from my humble point of view.
It is important to remember that Generative AI for Vertex was announced well before the event, about 6 months ago, but its evolution has quickly become noticeable and this is reflected in the news of new models available, with the aim of promoting the commitment to being leaders in the field.
Some of the standouts during these three days of the event, in my opinion, were: “Llama 2”, “Code Llama” and “Falcon LLM”, the update of existing models such as PaLM 2 Codey and Imagen, and a huge ally that makes it possible to verify AI images through DeepMind SynthID technology.
Anecdotally, we had the opportunity to create a unique postcard using natural language, with tools from Vertex AI & Palm2
In short, an experience that every player in the IT world should experience in one way or another: great exhibitors, impactful announcements, and a spectacular musical finale by fantastic exponents of Hip Hop music such as The Roots and LL Cool J, who ended up giving an extraordinary note to the event that announced the new role that Generative AI will have in our lives.
